DAY 6 Crazy Horse

First, a closer view of Mount Rushmore:

Next, the Crazy Horse Memorial is comprised of 12 different areas. The Foundation focuses on four goals:

  1. Finish the carving of Crazy Horse (depending on weather and resources it is predicted to take between 50 to 100 years before completion).
  2. The Indian University of North America, eventually with a medical training center for American Indians.
  3. Provide educational and cultural programming.
  4. Act as a repository for American Indian artifacts, arts and crafts through the Indian Museum of North America and the Native American Educational and Cultural Center.

NO FEDERAL FUNDS ARE USED FOR THESE PROJECTS.

Current work is focused on a Crazy Horse’s hand, finger, and the horse’s mane. The face is 87 feet 6 inches; completed carving is planned to be 563 ft high and 641 ft long.
